For some years now we have been aware of the ongoing conflict in northern Yemen between the Houthi Shia, and the Salafi students at Shaykh Muqbil's dawah center and school in the village of Dammaj. Over the the years countless students have been killed and retaliation killings has taken place. It is with great sadness that we hear now the situation has grown out of control, with the Houthi now surrounding the Salafi's in the village of Dammaj, and the Salafi's disparate situation of running out of food, and medical aid.
This December the leader of the Salafi's Shaykh Yahya al-Hajoori announced Jihad against the Shia and he received a phone call from the Muhaddith of Hijaz Arabia Shaykh Abdul Muhsin al-Abbad who agreed with his decision. The chances of all out war in north Yemen between Salalfi muslims and Shia is real and a present danger. And the even greater danger of civil war spreading into south Saudi Arabia is real a well.
For those who may not know the school in Dammaj attracts students from all over the world, many are there from the West. I myself had plans to go to Dammaj when I was still Muslim, something not out of the ordinary among western converts to Salafi Islam who wish to gain knowledge in Islamic studies. I wonder at this point how many of these converts have found themselves dead or permaniatly injured pursuing their dream of living like the Salaf.
The blood feud between the Shia and the Sunni has been raging on now for almost 1400 years, and will probably rage on to the end of time. I earnestly pray to the God and Father of all that these Muslims find the truth that I and others have discovered in Jesus Christ. That the true God has provided a sacrifice ..there is no need to destroy yourselves in religious bloodshed to earn a spot in paradise.
